Deep Sky

NGC 1960
Constellation: Auriga
Open Cluster
This cluster was discovered by Giovanni Hodierna sometime before 1654.  This cluster is some 4,100 light-years away from us, and approx 14 light-years across. Astronomers count at least sixty family members to this cluster and according to Wikipedia, it is very similar to the Pleiades cluster(M45) and would be about as bright as M45, if it were the same distance as its better known cousin.
This cluster shows the classic open cluster look.  As you can see this cluster has quite a few young stars associated with it making it I really enjoy looking at this one.
