Constellation:  Auriga
Open Cluster

M38 is considered an intermediately rich open cluster, they are approx 200 million years old.  This Messier is located in the disk of our Milky Way, most are a little farther away from the disk.  The cluster is approx 25 light-years across and some 4,000 light-years away from us.
Because it is an open cluster and gravity is not as intense has a globular cluster, over time the stars will spread out more.  One day there will no longer be an M38!
