Constellation: Sagittarius
This is an open cluster discoveredby Philippe de Cheseaux in 1745. With Messier additing it to his catalogue in 1764.  It is approx 2,000 light-years away from us with a Delta Cephei type variable star (known as U Sagittarii) part of the cluster.  This means this star is a very bright variable star.  It is some 19 light-years across.
