Deep Sky

This open cluster, in the constellation Canis Major was discovered by Giovanni Batista Hodierna before 1653.  The brightest star in this cluster is Tau Canis Majoris.This is a relative young cluster some 4-5 million years old with more than 500 solar masses.  If you noticed a faint red tint, your eyes are not playing tricks on you, hydgren is present and it is part of a nebula known as Sh2-310.
