Deep Sky
Cocoon Galaxy

A pair of galaxies shown here.  The bigger is 4490, aka Cocoon Galaxy, the smaller NGC4485.  The pair are approx 40-50 million light-years from earth.  Astronomers are not sure but feel these two have either passed through or near each other. Hence the shape.  If you look really close you can see the trail of stars and H2 regions between the galaxies. Of course if you can find a Hubble image it really stands out.  However, for a little 8 inch scope, not so bad.
