NGC4697 / NGC4731
Elliptical galaxy
Constellation: Virgo
This elliptical is a member of the Virgo NGC4697 group.  The other elliptical galaxy is NGC4731.  Astronomers don’t agree on how far this galaxy is from us.  A good is between 28 and 76 million light-years, but our friends in NASA think it averages out about 38 million.
Our main man Bill Herschel discovered this galaxy back in 1784.  Nuff said….
